take a breath (and/or a break.)
Coming to you from the beautiful Morelia, Michoacán this week with a business + life lesson I’ve learned the hard way.
Taking breaks is not optional, it is necessary. Working 24/7 is not sustainable. Period. Hustle culture made me think that if I wasn’t constantly working on my projects, that I wasn’t working hard enough. It’s caused me multiple periods of burnout and overwhelm that have in fact slowed my success.
After a six-week book tour, I knew I needed to recharge. I saw the signs of burnout approaching - I couldn’t come up with any new ideas, even as new opportunities were presented to me. My creativity was tapped out and everything seemed like it was becoming a huge blur. So as soon as I could, I hopped on a plane to fill my cup the only way I know how.
With tacos, mi familia + micheladas.
This city sparks so much creativity for me - maybe it’s the fresh air and views, maybe it’s the feeling of unconditional love I feel from my family, or maybe it’s the time and space I create for myself while I’m here to break out of my day to day activities.
if you’re feeling stuck…
The best tip I can give anyone who is feeling burnt out or stuck is to take 5 mins, an hour, a day, a week - or however long feels right to you - to come up for air.
We’ve all felt it, the anxiety that comes with a never-ending to-do list, messages coming in from clients 24/7, 100 unread emails that we need to get back to…and most of us, will not end our day without rushing to get through it all.
I’m the first one that will admit to being guilty of this. But here’s the thing - obsessively checking things off a to-do list does not encourage creativity.
We have to give ourselves time to allow our minds to wander, give our bodies time to rest and to reflect on our journey + connect back with our “why”.
an opportunity to be inspired, connect + reflect.

xx
