Big news, familia!
Your Business Hada Madrina is officially a homeowner with her hubby/first love. And we could not be more excited.
I’m sharing this news because I never thought homeownership would be an option for me - especially not after I decided to be self employed. And so I told myself it wasn’t something that was on my priority list. I let my fear of the unattainable limit what I thought was possible and I think my husband, and potentially many of you reading this can relate.
Our parents did not own homes when we were growing up and actually to this day, we do not know many homeowners (especially around our age). We couldn’t borrow money from our parents or call in any favors. And eight years ago when we took the plunge and moved across the country and in with each other, we didn’t have much. Just love, a couple of part time jobs and a lot of first gen ambition.
I’m proud of us. So proud of us. And if we can do it. So can you. And I promise to share as much of our journey as possible to be a resource for all of you.
Here’s to the start of ALL of us breaking cycles, building generational wealth and creating our legacy.
How to sell anything to anyone
As happy as I am, I will be honest and say that buying a home was not on the “goals” list for 2023. We were comfortable in our rental townhome and enjoyed the occasional Zillow spiral, and that’s kind of how the last two years have been.
But that all changed when I met Shelley Barr!
Shelley sold us a half a million dollar investment after two brief conversations and a handful of texts…when we had already convinced ourselves that we didn’t want to buy this year. In other words, she’s a very good real estate agent - but more than that, she’s a very good people person. And you already know, that is a skillset that definitely converts to dollars.
Here’s what we can learn from her process:
She focused on establishing a genuine connection with me. When we first met (while coworking at a coffee shop with a mutual friend), she wasn’t trying to sell to me right away. We talked about dogs, Mexico, naturopaths and working remotely. This got me to know her a little more. And then I was intrigued.
She asked me what I wanted and focused on providing value. After I decided I wanted to learn more about her work, instead of telling me about how many houses she’s found for people/sold, she went into learning more about what we were looking for in a home. She offered herself as a resource for any questions and set up a search for us - without being pushy. This made me like her and see potential in doing business with her. And by having me on her email list, she was now always top of mind for me.
She showed me what it was like to work with her, before we even saw the house. Within a month of receiving her emails, I found the casita we had been manifesting and reached out to her to find out more information. She went above and beyond to tell me everything she knew and set up a time for the next day to go see it with us. Her giving us an experience allowed us to trust her. Which made the decision of making an offer the following day such an easy “yes”.
She made it clear that we were establishing a long-term relationship, not just a one off transaction. We spoke about next steps, and even now that we have the keys, we know she’s there for us when we need her! She had our back the whole time during what could have been a very stressful process and THAT is how you create customer loyalty and referrals.
If you notice above, what Shelley did is she implemented (whether she knew it or not) what I refer to as the KLT factor which is the foundation of building any kind of brand. Getting people to know, like and trust you leads to more customers and better relationships with collaborators. I have built my whole business on this and it’s something I talk about often with my clients.
So, my question for you is - how will you be implementing the KLT factor this week?
Lastly I want to leave you with a quote from one of my new favorite newsletters, Why We Buy by Katelyn Bourgoin at Customer Camp.
People don’t buy because of *who they are.*
They buy because of *who they want to become.*
