Feliz Dia De La Mujer! Happy Women’s Day!
I just want to let you know that I see you, and that I’m proud of you.
So many of us feel undervalued, underestimated and underappreciated in our industries, and unfortunately sometimes even in our personal lives. And sometimes, because of whatever cultural and societal beliefs we’ve grown up with, we feel like we don’t deserve better, that we can’t ask for more and lastly, the intrusive thought I have almost daily is that “we can’t have it all”.
But here’s the thing.
WE CAN.
AND WE WILL.
But we need to allow ourselves to do it at our own pace and in our own way - and that it’s okay to rely on other people for help.
Yesterday I had the extreme privilege of interviewing Valeria Aloe, the author of Uncolonized Latinas (stay tuned for that piece), and she reminded me the importance of asking for support when we need it.
It’s so easy to let ourselves believe that we are invincible superwomen who can carry the world on our shoulders without a team. Because the truth is we probably can, and most of us are already doing it, but we shouldn’t have to. Trying to do it all by ourselves is a fast track to burnout and losing ourselves. I know, I’ve been there many times.
So this is a reminder from your hada madrina🧚 that you are allowed to take a day off, focus on yourself and ask for help if you need it.
We are stronger together. Somos mas fuertes juntas.
And we can create magic together✨.
Here are some of the women-owned businesses/artists, etc. that are bookmarked for me this month:
De Mi Tierra Naturals, a skincare company inspired by Mexican ingredients like cactus, hibiscus and more. Their superstar product is their Cactus Beauty Cream which is making my skin the best it’s been EVER. Founded by a fellow Mexicana, Evelia Torres.
Ocoa Beauty, formerly DN Organics, these two Dominican hermanas, Corey and Nicol, have figured it out. The shampoo, conditioner, hydrating crema + gel combo has brought my waves back to life after years of bleaching my hair.
Kingsley Music: This powerhouse popstar’s songs live on repeat - currently it’s this one. She’s currently crowdfunding to fund her next record and I’m so excited for it.
Mood Ring by Ilona Pamplona: If you’re ready to truly enter your self-reflection era - this is a good way to start. Inspired by mood rings, this journal will reveal your true feelings, deepen your self-understanding, and connect you to your intuition using color as your guide.
Latinas Descolonizadas by Valeria Aloe: The Spanish version of the award-winning Uncolonized Latinas book - truly a gamechanger for the Latine community. Valeria is building a multigenerational healing experience through her books and events all across the country - and without a doubt, pretty soon she’ll be worldwide.
ICYMI: You’re invited to the 2023 Jefa in Training Retreat in Huatulco, Mexico. The retreat is at 40% capacity already so if you’re interested in spending 5 days reflecting, resting and growing with us - apply today!
See my last post with the details here.
PS: Tomorrow is the last day to get my course, Pitch Yourself at the pre-sale price. Launch date is on Friday and I cannot wait!
As always, my virtual office is open and I’m here for any questions + support I can provide.
Hasta pronto,
xx
